Responsibilities
The Board of Selectmen is the chief executive authority of the Town. It is responsible for the general direction of the Town government, enacting rules and regulations to establish and implement town policies unless such powers are specifically assigned to some other office or agency. The Board of Selectmen appoints most department heads, board and commission members and may create additional offices and boards, as it deems necessary. It may also consolidate departments under its jurisdiction and may investigate Town departments. It is responsible for the preparation of the annual operating budget and capital budgets for those departments under its jurisdiction.
